But first, you should understand a bit better what this offer is all about. For this we asked Christian from ThePooPick to put together some information about the problem and the solution of ThePooPick.

In Germany, there are about ten million dogs, which twice a day “go for big” and this dog excrement is usually taken with plastic bags. Thus, only 15 million plastic bags are used per day in Germany – only for the disposal of dog dirt.

And here is the information why you should prefer to avoid plastic bags in the future.

1. Why is a dog waste paper bag better than a plastic / bio plastic dog waste bag?

Basically, the higher the proportion of recycled material, the better the eco-balance of products improves. That’s why we use 70% recycled paper for the PooPick. This is also FSC-70 certified. 100% would make the product very “labbrig”, finally, we want to offer a stable product with the PooPick, which is just the contactless fecal intake problem-free. However, the remaining 30% of fresh paper comes from the remains of the furniture industry. That is also a form of recycling.

The problem with organic plastic is already in the name: it is still plastic! Good suppliers have a share of renewable raw materials of up to 30%. This is basically good and a correct approach, but also means that still 70% (or more) are oil and chemicals. Since the renewable raw materials also occupy arable land and are often imported from distant countries, this is not a final ecological concept for us.

2. There are compostable plastic bags, right?

Dog waste should always be burned for different reasons and belongs in the household waste.

After all, dogs that are attacked by worms such as roundworms, hookworms, lungworms or tapeworms usually excrete their microscopic worm or worm larvae with the feces. The eggs can then be distributed by rain or in some species by intermediate hosts such as snails in the environment, so that after a short time, the soil, plants and waters polluted in the area or are affected by intermediate hosts. Some worm eggs remain infectious for months at a time and continue to spread as new hosts take over and continue their development cycle.

Humans can also become infected with some worm species, such as roundworms, by accidentally and unnoticedly picking up infectious worm eggs from the environment. Especially small children, who often play on the ground and explore their surroundings with all their senses, are at risk. These are also reasons that speak against the composting of dog feces.

The disposal recommendation on household waste applies to all providers of Kotentfernungsutensilien – that is also for those made of paper. Burning plastic bags, including bio-plastics, burns fossil fuels (crude oil), which results in unnecessarily high CO2 emissions and thus boosts the greenhouse effect. Of course, the same is also true for recycled plastic.

If a paper product burns, then it burns as pure biomass and thus climate-neutral, since it consists of 100% natural wood. During combustion, only as much CO2 is released as the tree has removed from the atmosphere in its lifetime.

3. What exactly do the organic plastic bags actually consist of?

For biodegradable plastic bags, a mixture of petroleum-based and renewable raw materials is often used – from corn-based polylactic acid (PLA). According to information from plastic bag manufacturers, it is not possible for more than 30 percent of the renewable raw material to be tear-resistant in order for a plastic bag to remain tear-resistant
